The first CRITCHLEY arrived in the Bonavista Bay region of
Newfoundland previous to 1840. My first documented source
is James CRITCHLEY marriage to a local women, Mary
SWEETAPPLE, of Gooseberry Island, in 1840 at St. Stephen's
Church, Greenspond. According to the church records James Critchley
hailed from Hampshire, England, but according to family stories was
from Manchester, England. -5- -6-
