The Tottens at the Drawlyn
This site is an exploration of the Taylor and Totten families. The
two families are brought together by the union of my husband and I.
The site is updated as my research advances.
Originals.
The Saint John County family was started by Joseph Totten and Sarah
Jane Tait. They arrived in New Brunswick from Ireland in 1849 and 1848
respectively. They married in Saint John before moving to a farm in
Upham township. By the 1860 census they were established in their permanent
home atop the Drawlyn. Even today the Drawlyn is still mainly in the
hands of the Totten family.
The Taylors are also a quintessential New Brunswick family. George
Taylor and Mary Chapman were both apart of the Yorkshire immigration
of the mid-1700's. Both families arrived on the Albion in 1776. Mary's
father started as supervisor at the rebuilding of Fort Cumberland. George
was a successful farmer from outside of Leeds in Yorkshire that took
of the practice south west of Fort Cumberland in an area that later
was named for the family, Taylorvillage.
Below is the main list of names being researched. Also part of the
site are family name origins as research by Charles Wareing Bardsley for the families being researched. Histories of the
place names of the towns and villages that are the settings of the family
history in the making are linked to in the trees or can be found through
the main navigation .
As Family history is never complete never can the website of such.
Expect that with growth and the whims of the researcher the content
here will move and change. With this in mind any Bookmarking of this
site should be done at the index to avoid any future 405 errors.
